Annoyed and sad

I feel like hitting someone who is younger than me but I know I can’t because of the consequences for it. Sad because I’m just feeling out of it today. I just want to flip out and hit this kid I’m 17 and I know it is wrong but don’t give me advice about my actions and opinions if you don’t have a great day yourself. I want to hit trying to control myself It is hard if they get me more mad. Tell me what I can do?

Help Yourself

  • First and foremost, thank you for trusting TeenCentral and sharing your story with us. Also, be proud of yourself for not giving in to your emotions of wanting to hit someone and instead came on her to express yourself. Great job! Talk about self-control!
  • It must be frustrating to have people giving you advice or their opinions about your actions when they themselves don’t seem to have it all together. It takes a great person to walk away from a frustrating situation.
  • Have you tried talking to this person and letting them know how they make you feel? Have you tried talking to a friend or trusted adult about what makes you mad? Maybe a school counselor or therapist. Sometimes talking about our feelings face to face will help us feel more relieved or just to see another person’s point of view. Just something to think about.

  • Have you thought about identifying things that make you a mad, a trigger, and ways you can help yourself calm down, a coping skill? Here on TeenCentral under the “Learn” tab we have many categories to explore including anger management, check it out. Under the “Tools” category we also offer many different ideas, thoughts and suggestions that could help calm the body regardless of what emotion you may be going through.
  • There are many things you can do to help when you are feeling strong emotions and don’t know what to do. Check out all the cool things you can find under the “Tools” tab:
    • Anger Map – the anger map talks about when to use a coping skill when you’re angry.
    • Positive Self Talk – positive reminders that help lighten your mood and feeling better.
    • Daily Positive Reminder – positive things to remind ourselves of when we are stuck in a strong emotion.
  • You can also do things like breathing exercises or adult coloring books. You can google these things find many ideas.
