This drug gets its hallucinogenic effect from a chemical called THC. It also has depressant effects and can be highly addictive. Commonly marijuana, hash, hashish.

A new prescription drug?

Sometimes people say that cannabis is “safe” because it is a plant, and because it has been prescribed to treat some illnesses. Remember, that just like all other illicit substances and drugs, cannabis can have harmful and dangerous side-effects when used without the specific guidance of a physician.

Marijuana is sometimes smoked in combination with tobacco, with an e-cigarette or through vaping- using it this way is just as dangerous.

Side-effects of cannabis use include:

  • Memory problems
  • Severe anxiety
  • Strange behavior
  • Hallucinations
  • Nausea and vomiting
