I live with my grandparents, and I feel my grandparents are abusive mentally, physically and emotionally I hate them for what they do. I don’t know what to do to cope and no one believes me because my grandparents are “awesome”. I think my grandparents are sexist and racist people.
Find Some Help:
Hi reader, it sounds like you’re going through a really difficult time. Thank you for having the courage to reach out to the TeenCentral community and sharing your story with us. Be proud of yourself for taking the first step, that took a lot of guts.
You mentioned no one believing you, does that including adults in school? Have you talked to a trusted adult at school? Think about it? A teacher, a guidance counselor, therapist, principal, school phycologist anyone? Keep finding someone that would listen no matter how many people you have already went to. If one person didn’t do anything then go to next and the next until someone does something. It’s important to find an outlet. Being able to have someone to talk and get out feeling out and feel heard might help feel like a weight is lifted off your shoulders. It may help the tough times just a bit easier to cope it.
Here on TeenCentral under the “Help” tab there’s information on the “Crisis Text Line” if you ever feel like you really need to talk to someone and have no one around no matter the time or day. They are available 24/7 by simply texting “HOME” to “741741.” Also, if you ever feeling like things are too much to handle and you can’t take it anymore “The National Suicide Hotline” is a good source to have.
Consider This:
You mentioned you don’t know how to cope. Consider some of the following to help you cope through difficult times:
- Journaling – writing your thoughts and feelings and can be a good way to let your emotions out rather than bottling them up inside. Try different topics such as – today I feel or one emotion to describe today would be and why.
- Wellness /Exercise – deep breathing is a great exercise to use when feeling overwhelmed. Try the 444-breathing exercise. Slowly breath for a count of 4 seconds, hold your breath for a count of 4 seconds, slowly breath out for a count of 4 seconds, hold your breath again for a count of 4 seconds and repeat several times.
- Hobbies/Interest – do you have any hobbies or sports you’re into? sometimes releasing energy in a positive way can be beneficial rather than letting it fester inside.
You can also check the “Tools” tab for other tools and ideas that may help. We really hope these suggestions help. Check out these “Daily Positive Reminder” to get you through the day.
