OMG, I cannot believe this is happening! I babysit for a family that lives on my street since I don’t have a job and I just found out today that I contracted head lice from one of their kids. What’s worse is my boyfriend was over last night and we cuddled on the couch, so I might’ve passed them on to him! I am feeling mortified right now.
Help Yourself
- First of all, contracting head lice is very common. Many people contract it at some point in their lives. No one enjoys having it, but it can be easily treated and can go away.
- You may want to research a few of the facts and myths about head lice. It may help you when you have a conversation with your boyfriend to tell him about it, if you haven’t already.
- If you haven’t already, you may also want to let the rest of your family living with you know. This is an uncomfortable situation, but you can get through it!
Consider This
- You may want to set up a time/ location that protects the privacy of both you and your boyfriend so you can let him know what happened. There’s nothing to be ashamed of; however, it is an uncomfortable topic and you both deserve for others to respect your privacy. We strongly recommend that you have your boyfriend talk with his family as well. Unfortunately, it can spread to others, especially living together.
- You may want to consider talking to your family about your treatment options, if you haven’t already. Pharmacies have many different over the counter treatments, but you should make sure that none of them could have any negative interactions with your body.
- Consider making plans with your boyfriend for when this is all over. Set a goal for yourselves for something you can enjoy together. This way you can look beyond what’s happening now, and have something to look forward to when this is resolved.
