People Need Help

I have never been in danger before, but if I was I would make sure to call the police right away. They would get me to safety and would make sure I don’t have any injuries. What can I do to help people in need?

CONSIDER THIS:

  • Wanting to help people in need can make you feel worried and concerned. You are kind for having the desire to help others when they need it most.
  • In order to help others, you need to understand what’s wrong with them. You can figure this out by reading educational books or reputable internet articles on certain topics. Some problems people may have are mental health issues, physical disabilities or spiritual issues. You may even want a career that helps people or even animals. Some careers that help others include doctor, fireman, teacher, art therapist, nonprofit professional, social worker, counselor, creative writer, police officer, police detective, veterinarian, nurse or clergy person among others.
  • You may learn what to do in emergency situations by taking classes online or in your community. You can learn CPR, become an emergency medical technician and more. First, make sure you’re old enough. If not, you can read about anything you want to learn or watch educational television.
  • You can even volunteer to help those less fortunate. Some ways to volunteer include training to become a counselor, help out at an animal rescue center, help the homeless by donating much needed items or volunteer at a crisis center among many others. Places like food kitchens, churches, schools, hospitals and more need plenty of help. Besides this, taking care of the environment benefits humanity. You can plant trees or a native garden, help a group pick up trash in nature or recycle. A few nonprofits are Habitat for Humanity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Feeding America, African Wildlife Foundation, Petsmart Charities, The Nature Conservancy, Sierra Club, American Red Cross and many more. If you’re an animal lover, you can save a life by fostering or adopting a pet from a local pet shelter to give him/her the chance they deserve to live. Find opportunities to volunteer from home or in your community by visiting websites like Volunteermatch.org.
  • You can save animals by becoming a wildlife rehabilitator or just learn a few actions you can take if you find an injured baby bird that fell out of a tree.
  • Sometimes people need to be saved spiritually. This may include criminals or other people who’ve lost meaning in their everyday lives. You can help them by becoming a spiritual counselor, priest, nun among others. Other jobs may also be spiritual to you such as an artist, singer, sculptor, chiropractor or something else. You can try figuring out what you’re meant to do by using spiritual techniques like prayer, meditation or yoga on a regular basis. You may even head to church.
  • Helping others means you need to be selfless, responsible and empathetic. You can make an honest effort towards your goals by getting more involved in your community.

HELP YOURSELF:

  • In what ways can you begin preparing yourself to help change the world for the better?
  • How could your genuine contributions benefit individuals and society as a whole?
  • In what ways can your efforts benefit your health, well-being and happiness?
  • What are some key differences between living a life that helps others and living a life that only benefits you? In what ways are selfless people happier than selfish ones?
